Everything Fast EP

I've been away for a bit. Working on lots of new songs/covers/remixes and more. Here's an EP of 5 new songs. I thought they could sound good together. They have all been written/recorded between the last two weeks apart from 'Everything Fast' (early november).
Please play it loud.

a new banjo track on RCRDLBL.COM

Saturday, 8 November 2008

After I accomplished my mission to record 20 covers I've decided to put them on a CD but then I realized they were too many to fit in just one cd so I've decided to do some (11 tracks including Archangel, All I Need, Cable Dazed, Atlas, back to Black, Cape Cod...) here and some on another CD later.
So, here're they are. Limited to 150 copies, handmade spraypainted freakout artwork.
Paypal £5.

i've seen so many owls during the last weekend. it was incredible!
by the way... i tried to re-post the TVOTR cover but got an email from the DMCA aka Digital Millennium Copyright Act that deleted my post and suggested me not to post it again. which means: send me an email if you want the cover and i'll send you a link (BANJOORFREAKOUT@GMAIL.COM).
i'm not going to record covers for a while but i will put my favorite 10 covers on a cd i'll sell at shows.
other news: i've been recording three songs at the XL Studio and had a great time. it was really nice to be there with dayo (recording) and daniel (playing. and when i say playing i mean that guy can play everything!). i'll be adding vocals and recording another song during the next couple of weeks and should have the songs ready to be released soon. going back to norway next week (can't wait!) to play a top line up show with my fav dudes gentle friendly and high places then back to london to play the same lineup at upset the rhythm. then playing dirty bingo @ the macbeth. come! check my myspace for details. my first single 'mr no/someone great' is coming out at the beninning of january 2009. it is official! tobias warwick jones did the artwork and it looks amazing. i'll post it soon. i should be touring around england and maybe europe at some point. let's see what happens!

other bands playing are male bonding and graffiti island plus young turks dj's and flawless victory dj's. see you there!

oh, here's a song called 'spacemen'. i recorded it 5/6 months ago when i was totally into spacemen 3. it's an ok song. ENJOY.

5 old songs EP

went to see high places/deerhunter/liars at koko last night. it was really good.
i really liked high places they have some amazing sounds. i love the percussion layers they make.
deerhunter were cool and loud, very 'please-turn-that-GUUUUIIIITTTTAAAARRRSSS-down-a-little-bit-please' but poppier than before. i liked them but didn't go as mental as i thought i would had gone.
liars were incredible as always. even more this time.

so, since i was at the show i missed this: ... HOW COOL!

here's a new ep of 5 REALLY OLD SONGS i never posted online. it's ok, nothing special. i wrote 'the city we had' last summer when i was totally into the beach boys. 'is that all' is my love song #20457, 'what to do' was fun because i used a million effects on the drums, 'bear' is basically me getting bored at my parents place last christmas, 'zurich02' is me trying to learn how to use garage band. so, yeah... but please remember... the stuff i upload on this blog is most of the times just fun... the real shit is on my myspace. :-)

A CAN mixtape by Banjo or Freakout: vol 1 // vol 2

punk rock confidential

a quick update to post a song i've been singing in my mind lately. i've been playing some shows and i have some more to play really soon. i'm kinda learning how to be on stage by myself. it is really difficult and i'm really not used to it. i get really stressed you have no idea! anyway, enjoy this little love song and come to the shows!

being happy with being unhappy.
being unhappy with being happy.
here's a new ep about being unhappy with being unhappy.

i'd say these songs are a bit different from the other banjo stuff.
i wanted to do something more classic using acoustic
guitars and organs... less space loop big mess freakout... don't know. i'm pretty proud of the first song. i think it could be my next single or something like that! hope you enjoy.
i have lots of shows coming up. check and come down!

bedroom/away EP

ok i've been recording some new stuff. nothing special i'd say but in this ep there's the stupiedest song i've ever written. no doubt. it's called 'i looked at myself once more in the morning before i left'. it's a song about leaving my place. actually the lyrics and even the voice melody are quite depressing but the music is just so, i don't know, stupid!? i wanted to record something i could dance to so now i can dance. that's it. i really hope you like it.

banjo vs battles/ banjo vs feist

i think these are the last covers i'll post for a while.
i had lots of fun again recording these two tracks.
battles are an amazing band. they are so good they make me want to stop playing any kind of instrument. atlas was basically the song of the year last year or something like that.
feist is amazing too. completely different stuff but still great. the reminder was a great album.
i'll post new banjo music soon. i've been practing with a new software recording all these covers. i think i'm ready to start recording banjo stuff again.

record labels suck dick. i just wanted to say that.

I know I should forget, but I can't

Now I really don't know why I'm covering a Kate Nash song so don't think about it too much. I think I've heard this song pretty much everywhere in the Uk since the single came out. It's a damn good song. The lyrics are sweet. It's teenager stuff! I mean, the chorus really works. I totally changed the structure and used just a few lines of the original lyrics.
Like always I couldn't stop adding reverbs and delays... Sorry.

I Died A Hundred Times

Ok, Back To Black by Amy Winehouse.
This song is simply amazing.
I really don't care who she's buying drugs from and I think her last record was great.
So, yeah, I hope you'll enjoy my version!

I wasn't talking about that king

I've been super out of touch lately cause I was without my mac until this morning. I managed to leave it at Stansted Airport last time I travelled back to Italy but I finally have it back in my hands today. YES.
So, here's a These New Puritans cover I was working on before losing my mac. I mixed it quickly this morning only using my phones so I guess it doesn't sound amazing. Of course it sounds quite different from the original... I even changed some words...
Enjoy! I have other covers coming up. Good times.

People And Their Belongings

My gf bought me a violin so I wanted to try and make some sounds with it so I started messing around recording stuff. The first thing I recorded was the 2 violin loops then I built the song on top of them. I can’t play the violin and I really want to learn next summer. The drums are taken from an old song I was working on but I pitched them down and added reverb so they sound quite dark. The synth sound in the chorus is disgusting.

Banjo Or Freakout - Zurich 02

Third Banjo song ever.
(june 2007)

Monday, 21 January 2008

You can make me feel bad if you want to

I don't need those things you said I was
I can live in my own
There's a place for us in the real world

You can make me feel bad if you want to

You can make me feel bad
I don't need those things you said I want
I can live in my own
There's a place for us in the real world

You can make me feel bad if you want to

This Arthur Russell cover is one of the first songs I recorded as Banjo or Freakout in June 2007.

I spent the whole last week ill in a flat in Camden. It's the coldest place on earth and all I could do was recording stuff next to my heater. Download the COLD EP HERE.
